Biografia artistic\u0103 a sculptorului Alexandru Pasat (con)figureaz\u0103 o interesant\u0103 geografie spiritual\u0103: n\u0103scut \u00een 1955 pe meleaguri doljene (comuna Pleni\u021ba), a fost elevul Liceului de Art\u0103 din Craiova, a studiat sculptura la Institutul de Arte Plastice \u201eIon Andreescu\u201c din Cluj-Napoca, unde s-a \u201ea\u0219ezat\u201d dup\u0103 absolvire, \u0219i expune acum pentru prima dat\u0103 la Muzeul de Art\u0103 din Craiova. Se poate trasa astfel o hart\u0103 ce schi\u021beaz\u0103 o linie \u00eentre dou\u0103 puncte figur\u00e2nd dou\u0103 centre istorice deopotriv\u0103 legendare. Activitatea sa artistic\u0103, care se distinge prin dimensiunea \u00eennoitoare a experimentelor formale \u0219i interesul constant pentru explorarea diverselor materiale\/materialit\u0103\u021bi caracteristice sculpturii, s-a desf\u0103\u0219urat preponderent \u00een spa\u021biul clujean, consacrat ca pol \u00eennoitor al culturii vizuale contemporane rom\u00e2ne\u0219ti. Personalitatea sa (artistic\u0103) poart\u0103 \u00eens\u0103 \u0219i amprenta unui filon arhaic redevabil straturilor profunde ale culturii tradi\u021bionale oltene\u0219ti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parcursul s\u0103u artistic, citit din perspectiva postmodern\u0103 dominant\u0103 pentru genera\u021bia (sa) optzecist\u0103, poate fi descifrat astfel sub semnul unei emblematice simbioze \u00eentre arhaic \u0219i minimalism. Dimensiunea arhaic\u0103 devine la Pasat o modalitate original\u0103 de recuperare a esen\u021belor, \u00een vreme ce minimalismul este rezultatul unui proces de esen\u021bializare geometric\u0103 a formelor. Din punct de vedere iconografic, opera sa se distinge prin c\u00e2teva motive definitorii, derivate din universul formal arhitectonic: st\u00e2lpul, arcul, coloana, contrafortul. Pasat lucreaz\u0103 \u00een serii, variind adesea aceste teme-motive; astfel, \u201emarele arc\u201d devine un semn al orizontului \u00een Orizont 231<\/em>, iar st\u00e2lpii puteau fi, \u00eentr-o serie din 2017, \u201einstrumente de m\u0103surat nostalgia\u201d. Pe de alt\u0103 parte, formele geometrice regulate se metamorfozeaz\u0103: p\u0103tratul este speculat volumetric \u00een P\u0103tratul na\u0219te<\/em> sau \u00een ciclul Insomnia, <\/em>trei cilindri de lemn devin f\u00e2nt\u00e2ni, iar forme sferice se transform\u0103 \u00een Secven\u021be din visul rotund al p\u0103tratului.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Din perspectiva haptic\u0103 a materialelor, sculptura lui Pasat privilegiaz\u0103, mai ales \u00een ultima perioad\u0103, lemnul. El este exhibat uneori \u00een starea sa \u201ebrut\u0103\u201d, dezv\u0103luind texturi particulare specifice (mai ales \u00een ciclul St\u00e2lpilor, <\/em>unde interven\u021biile \u00een creion \u0219i culori acrilice nu fac dec\u00e2t s\u0103 accentueze materialitatea lemnoas\u0103), dar cel mai adesea este folosit \u00een combina\u021bii cu alte materiale – \u00een primul r\u00e2nd metalul (fierul) cu care \u201econvie\u021buie\u0219te\u201d \u00een mai multe lucr\u0103ri (Arcurile, Uneltele, Coloana<\/em>), dar \u0219i cu fibre textile (cel mai elocvent exemplu este \u0218oapta<\/em>, un clopot de lemn \u00eembr\u0103cat \u00een interior cu p\u00e2sl\u0103, cu scopul de a produce un straniu efect sonor \u201e\u00eenfundat\u201d). De cele mai multe ori, Pasat intervine cu culoare (acrilic\u0103) pe lemn, de la semne discrete (\u00een St\u00e2lpi <\/em>sau Coloane<\/em>) p\u00e2n\u0103 la acoperirea total\u0103 (cum ar fi \u00een seria recent\u0103 a Greut\u0103\u021bilor de c\u00e2nt\u0103rit nostalgia),<\/em> menit\u0103 s\u0103 mascheze materialul originar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evolu\u021bia artistic\u0103 recent\u0103 a sculptorului ne dezv\u0103luie tendin\u021ba tot mai explicit\u0103 de a exploata creator memoria materiei \u0219i capacitatea inexorabil\u0103 de metamorfoz\u0103 a formelor, \u00eentr-o viziune personal\u0103 poetic\u0103 cu surprinz\u0103toare accente ludice. Nu \u00eent\u00e2mpl\u0103tor, titlurile formulate cu verv\u0103 livresc\u0103 de Pasat devin m\u0103rturia acestei remarcabile \u201ecotituri\u201d artistice; nu pot s\u0103 nu amintesc aici o serie mai veche, devenit\u0103 \u201emarc\u0103\u201d emblematic\u0103 a activit\u0103\u021bii sale artistice, Bagaje pentru o c\u0103l\u0103torie \u00eentre Est \u0219i Vest <\/em>(care beneficiaz\u0103, de altfel, de interpret\u0103ri iconologice divergente, de la Dan H\u0103ulic\u0103 la Adrian Gu\u021b\u0103 \u0219i Gheorghe Vida). Doresc \u00eens\u0103 s\u0103 atrag aten\u021bia asupra lucr\u0103rii recente \u0218a pentru c\u0103l\u0103re\u021bul albastru, <\/em>care integreaz\u0103 un obiect tradi\u021bional (o \u0219a veche de lemn) \u00eentr-o sintez\u0103 plastic\u0103 complex\u0103, cu aluzii multiple ce reviziteaz\u0103 un moment cheie al avangardei artistice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opera lui Alexandru Pasat este bogat\u0103 \u00een semnifica\u021bii, exploziv\u0103 prin inventivitatea tehnic\u0103 \u0219i impresionant\u0103 prin omniprezenta dimensiune haptic\u0103. Citit\u0103 \u00een cheia formalist\u0103 a lui Alois Riegl, ea confirm\u0103 convingerea savantului vienez c\u0103 la baza fiec\u0103rei imagini artistice st\u0103 o imagine a naturii, pe care \u00eens\u0103 artistul a transformat-o dup\u0103 necesit\u0103\u021bile \u0219i pl\u0103cerile sale \u0219i c\u0103, \u00een cele din urm\u0103, nu tehnica este cauza primordial\u0103, ci o anumit\u0103 voin\u021b\u0103 artistic\u0103.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artistic biography of sculptor Alexandru Pasat reveals an interesting spiritual geography: born in 1955 in the Dolj region (Pleni\u021ba village), he was a student at the Art High School in Craiova, studied sculpture at the „Ion Andreescu” Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca, where he „settled” after graduation, and is now exhibiting for the first time at the Art Museum of Craiova. A map can thus be drawn that traces a line between two points representing two equally legendary historical centres. His artistic activity, distinguished by the innovative dimension of his formal experiments and his constant interest in exploring the various materials\/materialities characteristic of sculpture, has taken place mainly in Cluj-Napoca, established as an innovative hub of contemporary Romanian visual culture. However, his (artistic) personality also bears the mark of an archaic vein that owes much to the deep layers of traditional culture of his native region. His artistic journey, viewed from the postmodern perspective dominant for his generation in the 1980s, can thus be deciphered as an emblematic symbiosis between the archaic and minimalism. For Pasat, the archaic dimension becomes an original way of recovering essences, while minimalism is the result of a process of geometric essentialisation of forms. From an iconographic point of view, his work is distinguished by several defining motifs derived from the formal architectural universe: the pillar, the arch, the column, the buttress. Pasat works in series, often varying these themes and motifs; thus, the „great arch” becomes a sign of the horizon in Orizont 231<\/em>, and the pillars could be, in a 2017 series, „instruments for measuring nostalgia.” On the other hand, regular geometric figures are being metamorphosed: the square is volumetrically rendered in The Square Gives Birth<\/em> or in the cycle Insomnia<\/em>, three wooden cylinders become fountains, and spherical forms are transformed into Sequences from the Round Dream of the Square.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the haptic aspect of materials, Pasat’s sculpture privileges wood, especially in recent years. It is sometimes exhibited in its „raw” state, revealing specific textures (especially in the cycle of Pillars<\/em>, where pencil and acrylic interventions only accentuate the wood’s materiality), but most often it is used in combination with other materials – primarily metal (iron), with which it „coexists” in several works (Arcs, Tools, Column<\/em>), but also with textile fabrics (the most eloquent example is Whisper<\/em>, a wooden bell lined with felt, designed to produce a strange „muffled” sound effect). Most often, Pasat intervenes with acrylic colours on wood, from discreet marks (in Pillars <\/em>or Columns<\/em>) to total coverage (as in the recent series Weights <\/em>for Weighing <\/em>Nostalgia<\/em>), intended to mask the original material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sculptor’s recent artistic development reveals an increasingly explicit tendency to exploit the creative memory of materials and the inexorable capacity for metamorphosis of forms, in a personal poetic vision with surprising ludic accents. It is no coincidence that Pasat’s titles, formulated with literary verve, bear witness to this remarkable artistic „turn”; I cannot help but mention here an older series, which has become an emblematic „mark” of his artistic activity, Luggages for Travelling <\/em>Between East and West <\/em>(which, incidentally, has been subject to divergent iconological interpretations, from Dan H\u0103ulic\u0103 to Adrian Gu\u021b\u0103 and Gheorghe Vida). However, I would like to draw attention to the recent work Saddle for the Blue Rider, <\/em>which integrates a traditional object (an old wooden saddle) into a complex plastic synthesis, with multiple allusions that revisit a key moment in the artistic avant-garde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexandru Pasat’s work is rich in meaning, explosive in its technical inventiveness, and impressive in its omnipresent haptic dimension. Read in the formalist key of Alois Riegl, it confirms the Viennese scholar’s conviction that at the basis of every artistic image lies an image of nature, which the artist has transformed according to his needs and pleasures and that, ultimately, it is not technique that is the primary cause, but a certain artistic will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
